Meet Jen Moran

On her very first day of work at Emporia Presbyterian Manor, Jen Moran met a resident whose first question was, “Are we going to paint?”

Jen joined our team in September as our new activities director, taking over from Mark Meador. Art is one of Jen’s favorite pastimes, so she was happy to tell the resident yes -- there will be painting. “Happily, I’ve had a lot of people talk to me more about doing art, specifically painting,” Jen said. “I love art. That’s one of reasons I exist -- to fiddle with my hands and make messes. I’m super excited to start incorporating more classes and some group painting.”

Presbyterian Manor is a great fit for an artistic soul like Jen, with our monthly art exhibits and the annual Art is Ageless competition. Jen also loves working with seniors. She comes to us from the Lyon County Department on Aging, where she was the RSVP project director. She has also worked for the state Department of Children and Families, a mental health center, and Head Start. She also taught writing at Emporia State University.

“I had started putting out feelers (for a new job), for something a little different,” she said. “I wanted to make sure I still have a helping job. That’s really important to me. I discovered while working for the Department on Aging that I really, really like working with senior demographic.”

Jen has a 9-year-old daughter and said they like to make art together. She also enjoys creative writing when she has time, and one of her poems will be featured in a statewide anthology coming out later this year.
